New Bio Photo

I don’t like having my photo taken.  I believe this to be a common ailment of photographers, but I can’t be sure.  I need a new photo for the About section on my (new and improved!) website that will be launching soon.  The one I currently have was taken at a workshop in Seattle, and I’ve never really liked it.  Thankfully Katy, who has second shot with me a few times, was willing to take some new shots for me even though she knew I’d be a bit of a pain.  This one is my favorite.  I now understand why some of my clients don’t choose some of my fav images from their shoots because their hair looks weird – why are we all so picky about our hair?  Weird.

Laurie: Yoga Action Figure

Can you find the yogi in this photo?  We lovingly call Laurie the Yoga Action Figure because she’s so small and bendy.  When she comes to my classes, the other students are usually in awe of her poses.  I guess that happens after you’ve been teaching for as long as she has :)

Laurie is also a social worker, and she’s starting to do some yoga programs with urban youth.  Since it ties into her work (and I love shooting in rundown buildings), I thought it would be very fitting to have her doing the postures in an urban setting.  She was brave for doing crow pose on that metal scaffolding, and side plank in the blue doorway – it was very small!  Good thing yoga gives you excellent balance.

Anyone else looking for yoga photos in the next few weeks should contact me – I’m doing a special for yoga teachers and studios until I leave town!

Dance Dance Revolution

I haven’t posted album pages before, but this one makes me laugh.  It is a two page spread from Ashley and Adam’s wedding last year.  That’s Adam going nuts on the dance floor.  It was Ashley’s idea to do it like a filmstrip so you could see the many phases of Adam’s dance moves.  Click the image to see it larger.

Caitie + Brian: Married!

Caitie and I went to high school together, but I hadn’t seen her since we graduated.  She found me on Facebook, discovered that I photographed weddings, and hired me to fly out for her wedding in Colorado this past weekend.  And I’m glad she did!  It was a beautiful wedding at The Sanctuary. The lighting was a bit of a challenge photographically (a seriously backlit ceremony, and reception with high vaulted ceilings and walls of windows), but I like how the images turned out.  Check out the SLIDESHOW HERE.

Lisa served as my second shooter, and did a wonderful job.  This wedding reminded me what it’s like to shoot in Colorado, and I’m excited to get back and shoot mountain weddings once again.   I will miss some of the great St. Louis venues and cool run-down buildings, though.

Congrats to Caitie and Brian!

Yoga for Peace

I won’t be able to attend the event this year (I’ll be shooting Jackie and Greg’s wedding instead!), but wanted to send out info to anyone who is interested.  Yoga for Peace is a non-profit event done all over the world as part of the Global Mala, and is put together locally by Urban Breath Yoga.  Teachers will lead 108 Sun Salutations on September 19th in Tower Grove Park, and there is a Closing Practice on September 20th at the new Ullola Yoga Studio in the Central West End.  Proceeds benefit City Seeds Urban Farm.  You can see images I took at last year’s event HERE.  I hope some of you will make it out!
